RCI HOLIDAYS | WINTER 2014 - page 13

National Park
is a riot of colour in August and
September, with daisy carpets in every direction
running all the way down to the sea. Antelope
and zebra graze amidst the spring flowers and this
unusual sight simply has to be experienced once
in a lifetime. Another unique attraction is the
West Coast Fossil Park
, near Langebaan, where
fossil remains from the ancient Big Five have been
found, along with fossils of Africa’s only bear and
a sabre toothed tiger. It’s also one of only two
fossil parks in the world, and visitors can see
a fossil dig and beds of marine and terrestrial
fossils in situ.
East of Cape Town, along the Garden Route, are
enchanting coastal attractions throughout the
year.
Cape Agulhas
is a must visit to stand on
the southernmost tip of Africa and see where
the Indian and Atlantic oceans officially meet.
Knysna Elephant Park
offers personal encounters
with elephants that will never be forgotten. Here
visitors can walk with elephants, feed them, and
even sleep in luxury accommodation adjoining
the elephant’s night enclosure. It’s a very special
experience. For oyster and festival lovers, the
renowned annual Knysna Oyster Festival is 4-13
July 2014.
EASTERN CAPE
e know that South Africa is one
of the most biodiverse places on
earth, so it’s no surprise we have
the most diverse national park in the world
too:
