and was
launched a couple of months ago to operate across
all e-commerce platforms in South Africa.
3D SECURE
is a joint Visa and MasterCard
initiative, supported by all major South African
Banks.
HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT YOU?

Soon, you will be able to verify your online
purchases using One-Time Password (OTP) SMS
Technology, as you now do with online banking
when you verify payments and add beneficiaries.
•
This extra security check has been put in place
to secure your credit card and make online
shopping even safer for you.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
•
If you have a Visa or MasterCard with ABSA,
Standard Bank, FNB or Nedbank it has already
been enrolled for 3D Secure online shopping.
•
All that you need to do is activate your card.
•
You can do so the next time you purchase

SO, HOW DOES 3D SECURE WORK?
•
With 3D Secure, your online credit card
payment is redirected to the website of your
bank for authorisation after which a One-Time
Password (OTP) is sent to your cell phone.
•
You will then need to enter that password
online, in an authentication page, for the
payment to be accepted by your bank. This One-
Time Password is only ever known to you and
the bank that issued your credit card. Neither
RCI
®
, nor any of our staff members will ever
have access to it.
•
The Visa 3D Secure system is called Verified-
by-Visa, and the MasterCard one is known as
SecureCode.
